I spent 25 years at the top of network marketing. Then the corporate suits took over, and my income stopped overnight.
Here's the hard lesson it took me 27 years to learn, and what I'm building now at retirement age so it never happens again.
Bert Jensen · In network marketing since 1982 · First Black Pearl in a TNI Access country · Homesteader
I was there
In 1998 I had about 1,000 DM in my pocket and a job as a slaughterhouse foreman.
Our crew moved 1,500 to 2,000 tons onto trucks every single shift. Even as foreman, I carried around 30 tons of meat a day with my own hands. I knew what hard work felt like.
So when I found Tahitian Noni, I went all in.
I brought it to Europe before the European market was even officially open. And I built the organisation across the continent, mostly from complete strangers.
2001: Black Pearl.
2002: My wife Elisabeth and I became the first Black Pearls in a TNI Access country.
After that: New Zealand, Australia, Switzerland. We built massive groups in every one.
I stayed at the top for 25 years. It gave our family the kind of freedom most people only dream about. We lived around the world, gave our daughters a great education, and lived life on our own terms.
And like thousands of others, I believed the big promise: build it once, and the residual income takes care of your family for the rest of your life.
In 2006 I even said it in print:
Even if nobody lifted a finger to continue my work, my business would go on.
Turns out, that wasn't true.
Then came the corporate boardrooms
In 2018 Morinda was sold to NewAge. In 2020 came the merger with ARIIX.
Suddenly the company we had poured our lives into was in the hands of executives I had never met.
New owners. New priorities. New compensation rules.
What we spent two decades building began to unravel. I watched many loyal distributors see their pay cut by up to 90%.
The rescue, and my decision
In 2023 the core assets were rescued and relaunched as Partner.Co, by people who understood noni from day one. I was grateful for that.
When it happened, I stepped back and handed my business to my daughter Sarah. She does an exceptional job carrying that torch today.
But by late 2023, my own payments had stopped completely.
No warning. No say in the matter. 25 years at the top, gone with the stroke of a corporate pen.
At retirement age, I was starting from scratch.
The lesson I wish I'd learned in year one
The product was never the problem. Tahitian Noni is still legendary.
The skills weren't the problem either.
The real flaw is something most people in network marketing, and in regular jobs, only see when it's too late:
We owned nothing.
Not the company. Not the compensation plan. Not even our own customer lists. We were building our house on someone else's land.
When you don't own the structure, anyone above you can wake up, change the math, and leave you with zero.
As I always say: there is no free lunch. And if there is, you are the menu.
What I'm doing now
Today Elisabeth and I live quietly on our organic homestead in Silesia. I spend my days gardening, landscaping and working the land.
I didn't want another high-stress venture. No days on the phone. No chasing friends on social media. No boardroom politics.
And I refused to ever again put my family's security in the hands of a company that can change the rules overnight.
So I found a different model.
I teamed up with a private community that has run on the exact same compensation plan and 80% payout for 10 straight years. One of its founding promises, back in 2016: never change the compensation plan.
Here's why that made sense to an old veteran like me:
- 80% recurring commissions on digital tools people use every month. Straight across, from the very first referral. No ranks, no leg balancing, no breakage.
- You own your list. Your contacts and your assets are yours. No executive can take them away.
- No army needed. You don't have to build a downline of thousands.
- Turnkey automation. The presentation, the follow-up and the technology are done for you, so you can live your life instead of being chained to a computer.
I'm doing this to keep providing for my family, protect our retirement, and prove that getting knocked down doesn't mean you're out.
If you're a noni veteran, or someone who got blindsided by a company you gave your life to, I'd be happy to show you what I'm doing.
No pressure at all. Just an honest look at a system where the math is finally on your side.
P.S. I'm writing a book about the whole 27-year journey: the slaughterhouse mornings, the wild growth across Europe, the Black Pearl years, and the corporate storm that changed everything. More on that soon.
